The Trump administration is rolling out new sanctions on the Iranian regime. While speaking at the White House Friday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the Trump administration will continue to cut off resources to Iran to stop its global terrorist activities.
Secretary Pompeo said additional sanctions will be imposed on any entity working to advance Iranian industries. This includes 17 separate sanctions on Iranian money as well as steel and iron manufacturers.
“Today they are accountable for murder and mayhem,” he stated. “The goal of our campaign is to deny the regime the resources to conduct it’s destructive foreign policy, we want Iran to simply behave like a normal nation.”
The announcement comes after Iran’s retaliation for the killing of Qasem Soleimani. Pompeo said additional sanctions will be placed on the eight senior officials who were involved in missile strikes on U.S. military bases in Iraq this week.
